The major key is the tuner. If they have experience then they will keep you and the motor safe. YOu really need to read up on what the F/I of choice is capable and look at past peoples experiences and more importantly failures in this case. Be prepared to buy supporting mods for F/I. This includes a clutch, perhaps gears, and often overlooked monitoring equiptment. If you can see temps and pressures before a blow you can save a lot of money.

Yes, the tune has ALLOT to do with it. We just finshed a stroker for a customer....his went boom!!3 rods and 2 bent valves!Car has/had a JDM set up...10 psi I think. Well I guessa local tuner told him, he could make more power. I am sure it did....but not very long!
So, make sure it is a solid tune and do not get greedy with power!

I haven't heard of any problems with S/C's. There have been a few blown engines to turbos though.
P.S. I'm not trying to start a flame war between S/C's and turbos.

its all about the tune i think the biggest waste is getting a mail tune (for FI) if u spent the money on the s/c or turbo spend that extra to get it tuned by a professional at a dyno..... ive seen 2 stangs go up in smoke because of mail order tunes

I think it is a combo of PSI and tune that cause stock internal motors to pop. I think a conservative tune on 10 psi is the max on stock internals from my research. Tune any psi to the ragged edge of power and it will let go under detonation. There are too many variable on the street to push the tune. Quality of gas, temperature, load all vary all the time. On a track car on 118 octane you can go a little nuts because the variables are alot less.
Personally I have no problem running the whipple tune and will for a while. I am only going to run 8psi for a while. I will in the future though get a dyno tune from VMP for 8psi and 10psi in my X-Cal, but when I do so I will ask him to keep it real conservative.
An extra 25rwhp isnt worth a new motor to me.
