That depends what kind you buy and who does the install.
Cheap aftermarket converter like a TCI is about 550
A good one like a PI multi disk might be 800-1200 depending on who makes it and if it is a custom one.
Install requires removal of the transmission so 400-800 dollars depending on who does it and their shop rate.

I'd go with the 3.73's. They're not too expensive to install even though I did my own. They're a huge noticable difference over the stock 3.31's.

The TC will give you more seat of the pants feel and reduce your ET by more time.

I was just reading through the latest issue of MM&FF and they had a write-up on installing a new TCI Super Streetfighters in JDM's stroker car. The results were pretty impressive. Here are the end results in case you don't have it available:

60' - 1.71 to 1.58
1/4 - 11.87 to 11.64

I've done both mods with gears being the first. If I had to do it all over again I'd do the TC first and then gears as I noticed the most difference with the TC. Good luck and notice us know which route you take first.

i would go with a torque converter it makes you shift harder and can improve your 60 ft. times

How bad is the TCI Street Fighter compared to the PI?

I wouldn't say TCI is bad but the PI is supposed to be a bit more heavy duty and handle more power. Which it should as it's twice the cost of the TCI. I spoke to the guys at JPC racing (where I bought mine and had it installed) and they haven't had any problems with them and Brent at Brenspeed is now selling them. I personally have not had any issues with mine either.
