Burt Clutch??

RE: Burt Clutch??
I worked at a large Ford dealer for several years and clutches are wear items and on a new car carry a 12/12,000 warranty (or at least they did 3 years ago). Even then, if it was gross drivers error within the 12/12 Ford was not obligated to cover it. BUT dealers do have some latitude. I had a guy with an 03 GT he bought new from us come in with a smoked clutch at 20k and 2 years old. He was a middle aged guy and looked responsible. We didnt see an obvious mech. failure and the car didnt look like it had s*** run out of it. So we gave the him the benefit of the doubt and covered the clutch repair.
I'm not saying a dealer can or will for you, if it comes to that, but it has happened.
I have an auto so what do I know anyway!

RE: Burt Clutch??
So i drove all weekend using 1st with every time i started from a stop light, and the problem didn't duplicate itself. So what do you think was causing it? Was it because I started from 2nd.. that I had the slip the clutch more.. and therefore it got hot.. and didn't grab as well.. [&:]
Never knew the clutch actually changed the way it grabbed based on it's temp.. but i guess it makes sence.

Yup, I would say so.. the clutch material is much like a brake pad-overheat it, and it will 'fade', and constanly slipping it when starting in 2nd will do that... I bet you don't get the smell anymore either!
