Default Long tube headers

I'm wanting to get long tubes when I get my car. Who all is running long tubes? How difficult were they to install? What kind are you running? Have any clearance issues? I really want long tubes but need to find out how much of a PITA it will be first. Thanks

Long tube headers are the way to go and alot of people are running long tubes. The consensus is LT headers or nothing at all. AS for brand names that almost seems to be prefence. Some are more expensive then others and all you would be paying for is the name. No matter what brand you get make sure ithas a nice thick flange. As for install, research this site for what people have said. AS for price in install I have heard around 600 bucks or so. Depending on how busy the shop is it could only take a 6-8 hour shift with one dude doing the work. I know this because I watched my brother do mine and that is how long it took. If you want to do it yourself you will absolutely need a lift and 2 screwjacks. By the way I have LT BBK's and I have no problems with clearence issues. You also should keep in mind what transmission application you have.

I got SLP LT headers with the 1 3/4" primaries because I knew someday I would go FI, the only drawback is that naturally aspirated I don't really reap the benefits, I think gained a grand total of 10 hp/tq overafter LT header install, dyno #s , I have a catted x-pipe so I am sorta emissions legal !! lol If you are never adding a blower/NOS then get the 1 5/8" primary, JBA, Hooker, etc......

The SLPs come T302 stainless and ceramic coated standard, I got mine for $699, matching x-pipe w/ cats was $300, $1000 a good deal considering Borla, Bassani, Kooks, etc.... are all at least 1200-1300 for headers/pipe and then you have to pay extra to get the ceramic coating and I am not sure what grade of steel they are using, so far I got 10K miles on mine and they still look brand new!!!
Install cost for me was $350 total from local garage, good deal if you ask me, well under $1500 for the whole set-up.

Drawbacks: clearance, the cats hang low, I think I am going to swap with some Pypes cats, much thinner and more streamlined, if you are going offroad pipe this won't be an issue. I am never going to lower my car so no issue for me but I know alot of people love to lower these cars !!

Pros: Along with my MAC exhaust my carsounds ferocious, everyone on the street and track say its the best "sounding" mustang they have ever heard, so take that for what its worth !!! lol here is a audioclip: http://www.houndbite.com/?houndbite=848

You need to decide what your priorities are, if you want to drag it there are other mods I would do first, if you are doing general mods you could get a good axleback and the LTs and be done with it, IMHO.

Where did you find SLP LT for that price? The cheapest I've seen is $809. The clamps on my cats drag the ground once in a while and I'm not lowered. Usually this is from hitting a good sized dip in the road at higher speeds though.

RPM outlet had a clearance deal on them a year or so ago for the $699, I thought it was a website error !! lol Ordered online and poof they show up for $699 @@@

Ever since then I have seen them for the $809, must have snuck one past them !! lol

I see on eBay people are selling the JBA for $489, those were my second choice, amazing how
much the price of these things drop after a year or so.

The JBA $489 set will just be the stainless model and that is a great price. If you have the extra money get a set of ceramic coated, they have a better heat distribution, but they are more expensive.

Ebay is a great place to get great deals. If you wait long enough you can find a great bargain. I got my set of Titanium Ceramic JBA's LT's for $465, Yes new, I guess others just weren't wanting them at the time, Or i was just lucky.

Desslok40, your car sounds great. I like the sound of LT's with cats rather then without them, Unless you're a louis Armstrong fan and like the sound of a truimpet, that is.

Im running Lt Jba's. No clearance issuses and best mod decision I ever made. Wouldnt go back to those factory manifolds even if you paid me.. When I did mine I did the entire exhaust all at once.. And It makes a huge difference in sound not to mention the awesome sound you get. Ill have a soundclip up hopefully soon ill let ya know.

I have the MAC mid/long tube with their Prochambers. Like others said, about 6-8 hours for the install and $600 or so for the cost. Heard they were a PITA to install on the driver side.

I have Stainless works headers. They make them for other brands as well. The install takes a while 8-10 hours for sure if you do it in your own garage. I have a video sound link here on page 2 http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2460665/2. You don't need 1 3/4" unless you have major horse power. They sound is great and if you combine it with other mods, you will gain all around.

good luck

I saw someone post that unless you are pushing over 650rwhp 1 3/4" is not going to do anything...thats why I went with 15/8"...I haven't installed them yet because I have been busy and then i got sick [:'(]
