Default Should I SC my automatic? Comments please!

Hi folks,
I want to put a Roush Charger on my new stang that I will be buying in the next week or so and need to decide if I will buy an automatic or 5 sp. I would appreciate your comments! I am leaning toward 5 sp. but have read some favourable posts that indicate automatics can take the increased hp & tq. As I own a 05 GT now with auto trans I might decide to SC it and cut my expense.

Thanks for your input!

Thanks to all who helped me reach a decision on which way to go on the installation of the Roush SC. The sale of the 05 fell through last week so the decision was a simple one.....the automatic gets the SC. I was able to get a brand new SC from a guy in Toronto for $3500 and picked it up yesterday. All parts are still in the bags and cartons with a warranty card still intact. SC goes in next week if the weather is good.

I'll get back and post again after it is installed and I get over the Rush...oris that Roush?

I would suggest either the Roush or Saleen, they give you a great power adder with low boost levels. Have a Ford dealer do the install and I believethey are fully warrantied!!!! Downside isthey are hella $$$$$$ and I am sure the dealer will charge you an outrageous amount for install but at least you have some security.

When you run the crazy boost levels, the engine and tranny just can't take it, that counts for manuals too, stock motor and tranny is rated up to 450 rwhp/rwtq I read somewhere, the Saleen and Roush base SC come in a little under 400 rwhp/rwtq with only like 5 lbs of boost, in contrast a KB or Whipple running 10-14lbs of boost can generate enourmous amounts of power but if you search on this forum and others you will see alot of those guys have lost engines, transmissions, and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ lol
A Z06 and GT500 are made for that kind of punishment maybe, regular ole GTs aren't.

As soon as my car is paid off it is getting gutted and turned into arace car (built engine, new tranny) so until then I am happy with

what mods I have for a dailey driver and weekend warrior.

IMHO

Personally I would keep the 05 unless you wanted to get a new 08 manual trans. Getting an 08 manual doesnt get you much if you took care of your 05.

Forget the Roush, it is too inefficient. Warranties are good but in the end you will kick yourself.

I would say get a Brenspeed Stage 2 Saleen or get a whipple HO for automatics. It makes 7psi. Should give you about 415 rwhp.

As far as auto's from what I have read if you keep it to around 425rwhp and have a good tuner, tune the car you are fine. The stock trans wont take alot of abuse. Defineately get an oversized pan for more fluid volume and a cooler for the trans.

Good luck

i bought an 07 auto and put the saleen 435 kit on it. i ordered the saleen from brenspeed (got it for less then web site price. call and find out the deal you can get) i went to my dealership and had them install it. dealership out the door price was $693. and i have the warranty.
i say if the 05 has been good to you, keep it. get the s/c and enjoy.

It sounds like your 05 is in good shape so unless you are dead set on the manual I say mod your auto. SC'd auto are quite fun! I went with Brenspeed as well but with his Paxton kit. Been about a year and have had no problems. I would recommend a deep oil pan for the tranny as someone mentioned and a TC upgrade.

Thanks for the input. Responses so far lean toward putting the SC on the auto and keeping the $ in my wallet.

Thanks for the opinion. I currently have a Superchip tuner and Roush cold air induction kit on the 05 and was concerned how the tranny would behave on downshifting. Currently when coming to a stop it kid of clunks down with the tune...however when I return it to stock without the tune the clunk goes away. I wonder if this will be the case with a SC in it.

I was thinking about the same kit for my of automatic. Hows the bottom and mid-range pull with the Paxton? I have heard the top end charge is unbeleivable. Also did you do the install yourself, wondering how hard it would be? I installed a Paxton on a 90 5.0 I had years ago, so I think I could do it.

Sounds like they have the shift pressures a bit off. I would contact whoever's tune your running and let them know, or if your running one of the canned tunes that comes on the tuner, I would invest in a good mail order tune.
