Throttle Body Help
My buddy has a Vortech supercharged 2006 Mustang GT. It has the aftercooler as well. He wants to upgrade the throttle body and install long tube headers.
I used the search function and it seems like there are mixed reviews about upgradiing TB's. It seems that stock GT is twin 52mm and it is possible to upgrade to twin 62mm. However, the aftermarket units have proven to be unreliable. At some hp level, the TB will be a restriction. From what I read, it seems that point is about 450rwhp with the 4.6.
Is the GT500 twin 62mm the best throttle body to buy??
I gained 33rwhp and a little less than 1 psi when I changed the TB and the j-tube on my chevy truck (And tuned). I went from 512 to 545rwhp. It is a different design than the twin design of the Ford though. I went from a 78 to 90mm.
What are good long tubes? Any long tubes or mid-lengths that have a CARB number?

RE: Throttle Body Help
The only t-body to buy on these cars is the GT500 with an adaptor to make it work with the stock 4.6 intake manifold. Sounds like you've read enough to know, some people have luck with aftermarket pieces, others don't. You can recognize the people that don't have good luck easily- they will be the ones stranded on the roadside typically. The stock t-body is good for slightly more than 450 rwhp. No long tube headers are emissions legal nor do they have a CARB number.
What power is your friend pushing now? I was at 469 rwhp 414 tq with the Vortech s-trim blower and Paxton 'cooler, with a 3.33" pulley, delete plates, and offroad midpipe. No headers, no t-body. My advise to your friend would be to just change pullies from the (likely) 3.6 he's running now to the 3.33 and get a new tune- that is more than enough power to push the limits of the factory block, all with the stock t-body and exhaust.

RE: Throttle Body Help
Yep, you'll get more power by swapping pullies, than swapping exhaust. Check this, a guy I met a few times is running a Paxton S/C with meth injection on his Shelby GT, putting down about 500rwhpthrough his stock manifolds, H pipe andBorla Stinger A/B's. He swapped his stock manifolds and h pipe for ARH LT's with X-pipe, and picked up.......... a whopping 6hp!

RE: Throttle Body Help
Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like the factory mustang exhaust system flows pretty well. What is the plate mod?
Seems like the best bang for buck would be swapping pulleys and re-tuning. I am going to check the pulley size today.
Does anyone know what injectors and fuel pump comewith the vortech kit? And what rwhp they are good up to?
