What would be the bestway to go, buy a rebuilt short block with with theforged internals, or have yours rebuilt ? Who in the mid west would you recommend for either, I'm near Chicago, Il.

Depends on how long you can have/want the car to be down. Having your's rebuilt by a reputable local shop is certainly an option, and will cost less $$, but it takes much longer.

I remember back in the day I had a Pontiac 455 block done. They spent 4 days on just the block. Then another 2 days on the crank, and then 3 more days to balance/blueprint everything.

Then you still have the teardown before that, and then the assembly after that.

YMMV.

I'd built my block with a good engine builder.

I'd buy a built block.. That way when my car's a collector I'll drop the stocker back in it and sell it at barrett jackson and have matching numbers..
