Default question... CEL

hey guys. i just got a 05 roush mustang a few weeks ago. when i smash on it and run thru the gears ill drop it in 4th my CEL flashes and the engine seems to sputter just a bit. im not sure what is causing this. it doesnt happen till the 3-4 pull, the first few are great with no issues. the CEL just flashes and goes away. the car has plenty of power and nothing seems to be wrong at all except a slight sputter and then it goes away. anybody experienced this or anybody know what this could be?? thanks

if the cel flashes you have a misfire, get it scanned and find out which cylinder is missing. its most likely a coil going bad

The V8 mustangs don't have plug wires. Instead they have COP's. (Coil on plugs) Your problem could be a bad plug or coil. I would run codes and see if anything comes up.

To answer your question, yes you can take it to the dealer but I believe they charge $60-$100 just to scan your car. I know Autozone will scan your car for free but I don't know how good their scanners are. Another option would be to buy a hand held tuner. They will check codes as well. If you ever plan on changing your air intake the tuner will be needed with most anyways. You can also purchase custom tunes from shops like Brenspeed or Bama to use with the tuner.

Goto Autozone/Murrays and use a scanner to pull and clear the code. Look up the code on the internet or post it here.

the dealer scan tool is much better than the auto zone code puller. with the dealer scan tool they can look at data and tell you for sure if the coil is failing by performing a coil stress test. but if you have az scan it just replace the cop for the misfiring cylinder. no need to replace 7 good cop's. they are not cheap.
