the old diptstick transmissions allowed humidty to get into fluid now they use a valuve kind of thing that allows gases to escape but not enter

I think the real reason was too many warranty claims from people over filling their transmissions and having them fail, so the made it so that you have to take it to a dealer to get it checked or filled.

The real story...during engineering, one of the Sr. engineers got pissed and shouted 'Get outa here, dipstick!", so some of the other engineers took him literally.

lol, jk. Couldn't resist... but yeah, we're not supposed to service our cars; that's what the dealerships are for. Hmmmm. Yeah, it blows. There have been people who've made some dipsticks anyways. Would make fluid replacement easier for sure.

the reason Ford went to a sealed systemwas to resolve the issues they had with 4r70 and 4R75 that had moisture accululate in the tranny through the dipstick.

This is news to me i work on transmissions at a Lincoln-mercury dealer, the only moisture problem i can remember is on some late model f 250s with a gas engines where the a/c drain was positioned over the dipstick tube and water would enter the trans. the 4r70 and 4r75 still have dipsticks on the, trucks ,vans, crown vics, town cars and grand marquis as the bigger trucks too (torque shift trans)
