Default VERY loud ticking from engine...need help finding problem.

i recently got the turbo done and tuned at VMP, ran a 12.1 today at the track and it started making a very load ticking as i revved up the engine. so i turned it off and trailered it home. it sounds like its from the top end, sounds like maybe the driver side, but its always so hard to tell. i pulled the valve cover off on the driver side and i dont really see anything obvious. any help on finding the issue would be helpful.

Don't panic, but i think there might be a time-bomb under your hood, just step back...

Might be a bad exhaust leak, did you look at that?

Hard to say w/o hearing the sound but I had a similar sound when I spun a rod bearing which resulted in a roasted bottom end. Mine came from the bottom end w/ a severe loss in power and an oil pressure light. Obviously this isn't your problem since you ran a 12 in the 1/4 and hopefully not so severe.
It doesn't sound like a rapidly moving typewriter does it? That might indicate a valve, spring or retainer problem which I've also seen first hand.

yes,its rapid, i jacked the car up and its loudest thru the hole in the transmission. i used a stethescope (sp) and it was loudest on the rear of the valve covers and underneath.

is there anything in the clutch that could come loose? im still using the stock clutch. ill pull the tranny this weekend.

Mine used to do that at hard acceleration but I put some resline in it and it's fine. I was told that's noisy lifters. Anyway no more loud ticking.

pretty sure its a rod or a valve , did a compression test and 7,8 cylinders are low.
