Exactly! Of course, once you use it with gear oil it pretty much becomes a dedicated gear oil container... (that stuff is messy!)

Great write up! It helped me a ton when I did mine today. Filling up the diff was definitely the hardest part. Next time I'll buy the pump.

But why does the official Ford Mustang manual say:

Rear axle lubricants do not need to be checked or changed unless a
leak is suspected, service is required or the axle assembly has been
submerged in water.
The axle lubricant should be changed any time the
rear axle has been submerged in water. Fill 1/4 inch to 9/16 inch (6 mm
to 14 mm) below bottom of fill hole. Add 4 oz. (118 ml) of Additive
Friction Modifier XL–3 or equivalent meeting Ford specification
EST-M2C118–A for complete refill of Traction-Lok axles.

Not to be rude..There are a lot of thing on the car that do not need to be changed, but we do anyway. At the time when I created this write-up, I was going through the process of replacing some of the car fluids to Royal Purple, so that was the reason for the change.

What size are the bolts on the pumpkin? Seems like 13 is too big and 12 is too small...

It takes a standard SAE size bolt, not metric ... 5/16-18 TPI.
