And the guy at the shop was telling me, if you get 3.73 you will notice a change in torque but not that holy Sh*t my head went back torque. THen another guy was listening in on my debate and told me he had them on his 05 and drove Hwy miles like no other and he didnt notice a drop in gas. So what did i do. got 410s and damn!!! love em everyday. Gas did go down because of driving habit. but once i got used to them, nope!! maybe .2 or .3 went down MPG. but thats it. Just get 410s . remember, 410's will beat 3.73s off the line everytime!!
That not losing any MPG is a 100% lie. More RPM's at every highway speed equals more gas, no denying that. Only way MPG stays the same is that people drive slower after getting the swap which is possible because higher rpms get annoying on the highway.

I went from 3.31s to 3.73s. It was a bit of a change, but I suspect most of what I "feel" is the driveshaft. If I had to do it over again, I'd have gone 4.10s. The change from 3.73 -> 4.10 isn't worth my time or money at this point, so it is what it is I guess.

Nevermind, I'm thinking autos. Manuals should always go with 4.10s, SC'd or NA. I'll be going 3.73's in my auto when I feel comfortable enough with gambling the install. I've heard to many stories about bad gear installations.

I think the OP has already made his choice (and may have had whichever it was installed).

For those using this thread to help make their own gear choice - try to think it through clearly. Give more weight to the reasons that people give rather than the numbers (i.e. 4.10, 3.73, 1 mpg) themselves or the emotions.

Everybody's driving varies a bit with respect to how much dragstrip use, hard running when the light turns green, extended highway driving, when/how frequently they want to be shifting, etc. And on their preference/tolerance for engine rpm and whatever sound results. Make sure that your choice is best for you, the rest of your car, and your driving and isn't being made to only for the purpose of "feeling like you're a member of some crew".

I agree mr peterson. My opinion on 410s is just my opinion and for those who need help on accessing a decision on getting gears. During my research 390's was a medium i was looking at. But i didnt find many people with em. i read alot of problems with whining on these gears. Granted, i also talked with many shop owners and they said a gear will whine based on the experience of he/she who installs em. So, after researching this topic for months, i asked myself these questions. Why do i want gears? ans: i wanna go faster, and more fun (safe fun), Do is there an once in my body on not getting 410s that i would second think it? ans; yes, when buying my mustang am i REALLY, thinking about gas? Ans: yes. will 1-2 mpg really hurt me than the fun of 410s? ans: no. when you woke up in the morning, what was the first ratio thought of? ans: 410s THere you go. honestly. i just drove back from va beach, which was over 3 hours drive. Ill list my mods below. but cruising at 75-80 i got 24- 26 mpg. Thats going up and down hills.

If I had a twin screw blower, I wouldn't do 4.10s personally. But they would have been great with this Vortech...

Thanks to all of you for sharing your info and opinions with me. I ended up going with the 4.10's and I must admit the car is way different. I need better tires right now I got 235/18 and I don't even hook up until I **** into second.

You can usually pick up some used gears for around $100 and the labor ranges from $250 - 450 depending. If you get new gears...add another $100-200 to that price.
