Default Champion Plugs

Hmm. At lease it's welded. The Motorcrap and Autolite plugs aren't even welded. They're more like just a swedge.

I used to work for Champion when they were in Toledo. OH.
The blue ring you see on the plug is whats called the "hot lock ring".
The metal part of the plug is all one piece, the electrode is welded on.
When the plug is made the last step after the porcilin is installed is the
top lip of the metal is rolled over and a high current is applied while
about 10K psi squeezes the plug to seal it, the blue ring appears there
because it is machined slightly thinner than rest of plug.
I have never seen a plug break apart in that area.
I have been running Champions for 20k mi, I did have a problem with
one when I got them with a broken porcilin that caused a miss, but once
I got a free replacement been running great, I still pull them while its
in garage every winter to re-antisieze, they have looked great both times.

Thanks for clearing that up! I'm over 16K miles without a single problem,

so you're saying it's a one piece that looks like it was manufactured as a two piece? That's great info.

Yes, the metal shell of the plug is a one piece machined part,
only the small electrode is welded on.
I was just sad to see they were made in Mexico, I was an electrician
at plant till it closed in '91, great job.

I guess being able to spell porcelain was not one of the
questions asked on the job application.

I spelled it that way just so you could put your 2 cents in.
I always enjoy seeing what you have to add.
