That's exactly what I heard from the shop that I had install my LTs. He said that the KBs will leak, and they will basically tell you to screw off. Unless you are going for serious power (20+ lbs) he said, "get a Whipple, shut the hood, and enjoy the car." Sounds like words to live by as far as I am concerned.

Sorry to hear about the SC OP. I hope it comes back to you, and you can enjoy your car again soon.

Wow, you leaked that much oil and didn't notice?

The seal behind the pulley is prone to leaking, I have replaced mine twice in 6 weeks, this last time with a double lip seal that so far is not leaking. Thing is, I noticed it within 2 days of the problem starting, and it looked like a TON of oil was all over the place, but the level had not dropped enough to add more oil yet.

Personally, this is a known problem with the 2.6l, and they should stand behind it, but even so, I can't see how that much supercharger oil could leak out and not be noticed. I would say it would be very wise to pull the manifold when the compressor comes off and clean the massive amount of oil that is probably sitting in the engine valley and running down the back of the engine.

I will pm you Jim Bell's personal cell number if you promise to not say where you got it. Bitch at him a little, specifying that that seal is a problem, but you better be able to gloss over the fact that you didn't notice a quarter of a quart of oil spilling over your manifold and valve covers.

lol I called Jim Bell and he said he owns the company but he hasn't been at the shop for over 2 years. He told me to call TJ or Matt and they would take care of me.

I dropped the supercharger off at Kenne Bell In Rancho Cucamonga today. They seemed like a bunch of cool dudes. They admitted that the early generation 2.6L superchargers had problems leaking. He looked at mine and said mine was an older generation Supercharger. I'm not sure yet, but I think they're going to take care of me. I'll keep everyone posted.

On a plus note. I asked for a carb sticker since I never got one originally. They walked in the back room and grabbed one for me on the spot! officially smog legal! haha =)

Over filling can also cause damage.

Hope everything works out for you! Good luck!!

+1,000,000

I know everyone feels differently about all the different manufacturers out there, but I have heard the exact same thing from some pretty reputable performance shop owners and that's why I would never own one nor recommend one to a friend.

I wish you the best of luck of luck and hope they own up to it if it's indeed a problem with the S/C and take care of you.

Yeah they said the second generation+ 2.6L's don't leak. They adressed the problem. And as far as not recommending a kenne bell to people, I dissagree fully. Before the oil leaking, I had no complaints about the supercharger. It made a ton of power real easy. I think the supercharger is good for up to 850rwhp or something crazy. Not to mention it's about a grand less than the competitors. Brand new kit for 5800$ on their website....

More good news... I talked to Matt down at Kenne Bell today and he said the supercharger leaking oil didn't affect the gears or bearings down in the bottom of the supercharger. The noise was coming from up in the compressor. It's an easy fix that they're doing for free! They're also changing the base of the supercharger out. The old ones had a silicone base and the new generations were a little different. They're changing that around for me for free too.

As far as a customer, I'm 100% satisfied in the product I bought. Kenne Bell was very knowledgeable, they were friendly, and they stand behind their product 100%. I'm pretty happy. Can't believe i'm getting it fixed for free! =)

Hey 05 Mustang I guess you never heard of a Shelby Supersnake. I don't know what shops tell you not to use Kenne Bell but Carrol Shelby obviously liked their product. He puts them on his 725 HP Supersnake Package. I don't want to bag on your shop or whatever, but maybe its because Kenne Bell doesn't do third party sales. A lot of shops get big discounts and kickdowns for selling their products ie (saleen, procharger, etc.). Kenne Bell isn't like that. You can't call brenspeed or lethal performance and order a kenne bell. Only way u get a kenne bell is by calling kenne bell. Well thats my 2 cents. All of the major brands are very good and I don't want to talk bad about any of them. It's just funny to me that a GT500 owner doesn't like kenne Bell. Cobra owners have made kenne bell their choice for the last 20 years!
