Default Tri Ax shifter problems

When I bought my car it already had a Steeda Tri Ax shifter installed. Nice, but it is hard as hell to engage the gears sometimes. I leave it in neutral when parked, and when I start it, it wont shift into reverse without SERIOUS force. If I shift to 4th first, then reverse, it is smooth as butter. I know there is a lockout to keep you from shifting into reverse while driving, but when when it is left overnight? And at random times other gears are hard to shift into as well. And sometimes the whole thing works great.

So, anyone know how I should check it to see if something is wrong? Maybe the PO installed it poorly? Thanks!

How many miles are on the car? Ever had the transmission fluid changed? Now might be the time. Synthetic, go!

24,000 miles, and I havent had it changed. Just got the car last month. Guess maybe it might be time to do it.
