2010 GT Automatic: Rattle in First Gear
Hi All,
I am the proud owner of a new 2010 GT with the 5-sp automatic. When accelerating, there is a rattling noise coming from what sounds like the transmission around 2,000 RPM. Once the transmission shifts into second, the rattle disappears. It won't reproduce it in any other gear or at 2,000 RPM in neutral. Any other owners experience this?
Thanks!

Can you describe the sound more? Does it happen in neutral also? Go away after the car warms up? Is it a rattle or more of a scraping metalic sound?
The 05-09's were notorious for rattles/metalic sounds typically at startup and since the '10 is basically the same, we might be able to narrow it down.

Nuke - thanks for your reply! It is definitely a rattle, not a metallic scraping sound. It occurs only in first gear when accelerating - as you approach 2,000 RPM and the shift point it gets louder and faster. It is accompanied by what I call the "Ford whirr" that all their torque converters seem to emit. As soon as it shifts into second, the whirr and the rattle completely disappear. It does not happen in neutral - so I am thinking something transmission or torque converter related. Any thoughts? I'm still under warranty of course, so I can always take it to the dealer - just wasn't sure if this was something that was considered "normal."
Thanks!
Thanks!

Perhaps some of the other '10 owners and guys with autos can chime in. At this point, I have no other input other than to suggest that you not fool with it assuming you have at least a little faith in your dealership's maintenance department.

I don't know about the '10 but I have '06- 4 heat shields under the car, 2 where the cats are and 2 more about 2 feet back and they were doing some minor rattling. This was at low RPM.I just pried them out about 1/4 inch.A lot more quiet now.I also think they stop rattling once the exhaust gets hot.
