Default Cold Air Question

I've decided to go with a K&N Cold Air kit (yeah, i'm on a budget) and my question is about a tune. Would i have to change the tune after installing this? Or should she be ok with stock tune?

I believe K&N states that their CAI doesn't require a reflash, or tune. With that said, the engine will run fine. But, I do remember reading an article that compared various CAI and tunes, and the K&N setup does run a tad on the lean side of the air/fuel range; somewhere around 15:1. If someone has the article, let me know- it was within the last two years.

My advice, if you're really on a budget- don't buy the CAI. Just drop in a K&N air filter, good for 5-8hp on 4.6L 3v, and save up for a really nice CAI and tune.

I dropped one in about 12k mi ago. It runs pretty good but have you ever had that not-so-fresh feeling lately when you mash the pedal? She doesn't have a yeast infection, she just needs bolt-ons. She feels like she is screaming for more...

Ummmm.... lol. I had to laugh at that yeast infection comment. I think I understand what you're saying. You want more power. You get used to the power, and end up wanting more of it .

And, if she's screaming for more- than you should give it to her . I know, another dirty reference.

The K&N can be used as a stand-alone if I recall. But even CAI's that claim to not require a tune will tend to throw a lean code. Plus, stand alone CAI's produce MAYBE 4-6 RWHP or less. The tune is the real power adder. It simply makes sense to do the combo for the 20-25 RWHP.
