Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-20
Hi,
What do you think about this oil? Is it good for Mustangs? I have 2005 GT with 55000 miles. I used to use this oil on my previous car and didn't have any problems. Mobil says that this oil is designed specifically for today's longer service intervals and are guaranteed to protect for up to 15,000 miles or one year. I want to use it with their extended performance oil filter.
What do you think? or which oil do you suggest?
P.S. how many quarts do I need?
Thanks

I use M1 EP along with the M1 filter in my SUV which sees a lot of boat towing duty. I change the oil at an early 8-10,000 miles. I used to go 8-10,000 miles on original M1 in my previous SUV which I sold with 152,000 miles and not a bit of lost power or oil useage.
My Stang gets Amsoil oil & filter and gets changed at 8,000 miles or 1 year. She would see M1 also had I not started using Amsoil in her. The g/f's Stang gets the Motorcraft Blend at 5,000 mile intervals.

If you're going to stick to a 5,000 mile (or even 7,000) or 6 month oil change frequency, then a blend is more than enough. It'll take your engine well beyond 200,000 miles easily just as well as full syn will (assuming nothing else falls apart). The Motorcraft oil filter can do the job up to about 7500 miles.
I don't take my own advice only because I started with Amsoil and don't want to stop and can afford to not stop. But my change frequencies, although long in some folks opinions, are conservative in mine and others. After having had training in oil analysis years ago and discussions with a few folks in the oil industry, I have my comfort zones and 10,000 miles on a quality synthetic is a piece of cake.
Most engine problems are unrelated to what oil is in the crankcase, providing you're doing the appropriate maintenance. If an engine has a bearing issue (factory defect, poor installation, etc), using a boutique oil in lieu of some garbage, low end brand isn't going to make one bit of difference.
