Default Pinging????

I searched and could not come up with anything that is exactly what I am expierencing. I have a '10 GT. It only has about 2200 miles on it. I have an SCT programmer with Bama tunes. I am running the 93 octane performance tune as a dd. The only other thing I have added was a K & N panel filter. Running 93 octane gas, I start to ping at around 4K. Supposedly the gas station I go to sells pure gas (there are no decals at the pump saying that it is a ethanol blend). The air temp here is in th low 40's to mid 30's. It is not throwing any codes. I will clean the MAF sensor, just incase K & N over oiled it, although I have never personally ran into that problem. Several solutions are possible. #1 Change gas brands, although I have never had this problem before, even with another GT. #2 Get ahold of Bama and see what is going on. #3 Could be "winter blend" of gas? #4 Reprogram with 93 octane (street tune). Are ther any other ideas or suggestions? I am throwing this out, because I am working a boat load of O.T. and am limited free time at home. Any suggetions would be greatly appreciated. I REALLY like to run the performance tune though.

It could be winter fuel mix or just a tank of borderline fuel. Load a lower octane tune or call AM and have them walk you through pulling a bit of timing with the tuner.

Would the 93 octane "street tune" be less aggressive with the timing?

It might just be the wrong fuel was put into the wrong tank at the gas station?

Allow me to explain...

Most dunder heads just pump what ever is cheapest into their car.

Most Gas stations have a "main" tank that they put 87 into. Then the ethanol and premium blends go into smaller tanks.

But some times the Ethanol blend is cheaper. The gas station owner then makes the "Main tank" his 89E tank and turns one of the smaller tanks into his 87 tank.

At this point your actually mixing/degrading fuels.....

Plus this actually causes mass confusion for the fuel delivery drivers.

So what I am trying to say is,.... It might not be your car.

Your tank of 93 octane might not actually be 93 octane.

The winter blend wouldnt change the octane rating, but switching gas stations might help.

Since I have hauled fuel, I always try to use the big name brands that have their own fuel trucks. "Shell is my prefered"

Alot of the smaller stations use Local tank lines to haul their fuel. That might not sound like a problem untill you realize that tank lines just dont haul gas. I could tell you horror stories you wouldnt beleive. Like 100 gallons of liquid fertilizer mixed in with 5000 gallons of gas. or the guy who dumped straight ethanol into the E89 blend tank.

F'ing clowns man...... F'ing clowns

I hear you, Slug Catcher.
I filled my car's tank twice with what was supposed to be "93", and it pinged to beat the band both times. Couldn't go WOT for almost 600 GD miles.

As always, thank you. Slug catcher, does Shell haul their own gas nation wide. I am in North Alabama and never recall seeing a large oil companies trucks on the road. I will start paying attention to who I see on the road though.

But Your probably safe if you use a Major Oil company brand. Ie. Conoco/phillips 66, Shell, ect. I know Loves and Pilot truck stops haul their own too.

If you driving around in 30-40 degree weather your car is probably obtaining maximum timing so I suspect your tune needs adjusting . You can also check for unmetered air, IE. a loose fitting on the intake etc.

I am running Conoco / Phillips 66. I may just swap brands and see what happens.

How about running a 91 or 89 tune until you get a new 93 tune or just taking out 2 degrees of timing?
