HELP! Blown Motor
#21
You can have a fully built forged short block installed for approx. 8k. However I agree with others get another opinion from an independent garage that a friend has dealt with. What you say and what the stealership says don't jibe.

Need to take it in for a 2nd opinion somewhere reputable. Things don't seem to add up.
If you still have your CEL on, you can take it to autozone and have them pull the code(s). Might give you a rough idea of what maybe going on. The service is free.

I've seen good condition, low mileage '05-'09 4.6's for as low as $1k/2k. Hell for like $7k you could buy a 5.0 crate motor. I'd DEFINITELY get a second opinion and avoid the dealer. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a minor problem and they're just trying to make $$ of off a woman

Production 3V short block M-6009-463V, list for $1,999.99, it's 22.8hrs book time to replace a short block, so if dealer get $120 per hour labor would only be an additional $2,736. That's less then $5,000, where did $7,000 come from???
