Default Spark plugs braking in the heads?

so my sister in law has about 90k miles on her 05 GT and so she decided that she wanted to get a tune up done. so I was removing the spark plugs and a couple of them broke off in the head. these spark plugs seem to be rusted into place or seized into their hole.

is this a common problem with these cars?

what can I do to get the remainder of the spark loose and out without knocking it into the cylinder?

Google it. It's a huge issue with tons of threads online. There is a special removal tool you can buy for when they break.

Yep. I just went through the change process two days ago and I was fortunate enough not to have any break (there is a TSB that greatly reduces the chance of breakage). The tool you want for removal is the Lisle 65600.

Amazon.com has the tool at a good price. Its a very common problem. Read up on how to extract them. I have read that the tool works very well.

I found out one of my friends already has the tools at his shop so I am going to have him help me. he said he sees it all the time at his work on all the Ford 3V motors.

do you think some of this has to do with the fact that there is over 90k miles on the car with the stock plugs or is this happen even if you're changing them out every 30k like Ford says to?

The stock plugs should have a lifetime of 100k miles. The longer the plugs go the more carbon buildup is going to occur. I did mine at 55k and everything came out fine, but one of the plugs had some major buildup on it.

I changed mine at 11500 in my 06 GT...they were a bitch then... even after soaking them it took 50 ft lbs to break some of them loose...I cant imagine after 90k!
