My car never roasted the tires in any gear with 4.10s and a CAI/Tune from brenspeed. Goodyear F1 285/40/18 - same as on the GT500. I could get it to chirp going into 2nd and sometimes it would start to spin at the top of first gear just before the shift. But it never really felt like it got all that loose to me.

It spins more in 1st and 2nd gear now than it did before. 1st gear is over with quickly and while it often spins the car never seems to get much of a chance to get sideways. 2nd gear can be a bit more to handle at times with the rear end wanting to swing out. I've never had to get out of it though. Stock KB tune. I have added relocation brackets which may also be helping to keep the rear planted.

Keep in mind hot pavement on a sunny day will help cut down on spin and also if the density altitude is up there due to heat/humidity that can have an effect on your power levels. Lots of factors go into this. For a while I thought my car was broken due to the lack of spin until I had it on the dyno which showed otherwise.

I have always been interested in drag racing a GT with a manual trans.. one of the main reasons I got the auto was because of the "1.3 60 fts. with slicks and a high stall converter".. so much for that idea rofl

Looking back at my slips, I was hitting 2.0/2.1 all day long.. wtf? same as street tires! But these stick and at least they were all in the 12's rather than **** poor 13's on street tires...

.. holy smokes.. I definitely need the driver mod. My average was not 2.0 on street tires, but more like 2.4/2.5.. sheesh.... I feel marginally better now about the 2.0 on MT's now..

damn the 1/4.. I just want to nail 1.5/1.5 60 ft.s now.. If I can do that, the rest should take care of itself

You might be pushing it with a 1.5 and at your power level. Not saying it is impossible, just difficult without weight reduction, good suspension and good wheels/tires.

I am a little lost in how to launch with these new tires... it hooks a little "too well", so much so that it's more in how I launch it than how much power I am making.

This weekend though.. at least 1.8, or I am going home after the 5th run! lulz

Ah, I know what you're thinking.. been there, done that... if it were that easy, everyone would be running 10s..

lol you ever read those magazines where they claim to hit high 11's with just a CAI/tune, gears and tires, thinking, oh shiet.. I could so do that..

but when it comes to track day, thinking you're one of the gifted few.. and nothing happens?

arrgggh.. story of my life rofl

IMO the automatics act differently given equal power levels, traction, and similar gearing. They are more apt to spin than the manual. I base this on my experience with my 06 and Mishri's old 07. He spun more often than I did despite similarities between the two cars regarding the above mentioned variables.

I disagree. With a good tire and equal power levels in the same car I would generally give the 60' to the automatic.

If I switched to a built auto or Turbo 400 i would be in the 1.4's for sure.

Guess I'm not sure why but even from a roll his car wanted to dump traction more often than mine did. They both dyno'd within 10whp of each other and both had 4.10 and the same 235mm pirellis.

Not disputing your experience there btw, I know automatics are less touchy on the launch than a manual car.
