Default Cam Question

Which is an overall better camshaft?

FRPP Hot Rod or Detroit Rocker

Your question is too variable. Best for what? Pure power? Sound? Daily driving ability? Lot of different factors.

I have the Comp Thumpr Cams in mine and they are pretty radical, not as DD friendly as Detroit Rockers but far more lopey an idle and mid to high WOT screams above 3k.

What are your goals for the cam? For what they cost I would say keep the stockers and save for a supercharger.

This is my vote. Unless you just have to have that lopey idle, the low end torque loss (and decreased fuel economy) isn't worth the trade at the top end. Although, the low end loss is not likely to be quite as bad with the modest mods you already have listed in your sig.....but the top end isn't going to improve as much either.

Ever since I modded my car with what you see in my sig, I've been of the opinion that heads should be reserved until it's time to go BIG with the motor. Lately, I think I would put cams in that same category. If you really want bang for the buck, forced induction should be your first step.

If you are paying full price, I wouldn't bother with cams. I picked mine up used for a good price and did the install myself, so I saved a lot. Otherwise, I would not have done them.
