Default Looking for help with 02 gt mustang

I'm having a slight ticking noise out the driver side. Sometimes a little bit of smoke comes out the driver side tailpipe. I was told that it was running rich on the fuel due to it being out of tune. It has no catalytic converters, straight pipe. I was told by the local Ford house that no big issues except for it needing to be re-tuned. I bought this vehicle pre-owned and didn't know that it had been custom tuned previously. The Ford house mechanic told me that it needed to be re-tuned or to put catalytic converters on it and that would fix the smoking, running rich on fuel and the little noise. Any suggestions/opinions? Does that sound right? I'd hate to waste money on unnecessary work and still have the ticking and smoke. Thanks in advance!

You're in the wrong section. A friendly mod will move this for you. Welcome to the forum and I hope you get it sorted out.

This may sound dumb, but what is a "friendly mod" ....I'm new to using these forums.
