JDM has their assembly on sale right now. http://www.teamjdm.com/4-6l-3-valve-...e-rebuild-kit/ Good price for a nice kit. You would need to have your block machined and the assembly balanced but that's about it, as far as the shortblock goes.

I'm going with the B326 in the future. Anyone know if I will need larger headers? I'm not sure at what point or horsepower would you need larger pipes. Stock is 2.5 inch.

Yes you can use more boost at a lower compression when all things are equal.
They are mainly going lower compression to counter detonation, which is mainly to be able to run higher boost on lower octane. The downside is that it takes higher boost to make the same power, for instance assuming you are running 12lbs @ 9.8:1 compression, you would theoretically need 13.84LBS @ 8.5:1 compression to make the same power (that's the point at which you are moving the same amount of air and fuel at the 2 compression levels). This assumes the temps are equal, which the lower compression will be slightly lower and you will be able to run more aggressive timing making up for some of that compression loss.

The alternate is to lower the temperature of the boost charge by intercooler and/or water-methanol injection in which case detonation is less likely at the 9.8 compression... or increase the octane by using race gas or E85.

I have a similar goal and am currently assembling a new engine. I elected to go with a built forged short block for a couple of reason; firstly keep the OEM intact for a spare and secondly I was not aware of a local machine shop that had a solid reputation and experience with building a 3V. While this list of parts is specific to my build it will give you an idea of what is required. And yes of course do not forget the fuel system.
