Probably more that it interferes with the synchromesh's ability to force the mainshaft and countershaft speeds to match so that you DON'T get a grind. Synchros need a certain amount of friction to do this effectively.

FWIW, I had good experience with GM Synchromesh in the TR3550 Tremec I had in a different car.

Well then it's not too slick, because mine never grinds. I'd like to think that tremec would not give out false information and that royal purple would not recommend their product in an application where it wouldn't work, but I'm a realist and sometimes these companies tell the consumer what they think you want to hear.

As usual, your mileage may vary, but I have had absolutely zero problems in the past 5 years using royal purple synchromax. It greatly reduced the temperature of my trans.

I recently put the RP MaxATF in my T-5 and so far so good. I emailed RP Tech from their website regarding application recommendations and never got an answer so I'm not too impressed with them on that front. At the American Muscle show I spoke with the RP rep and he said the Synchromesh has greater shear protection then the MaxATF does. The MaxATF has friction modifiers that could cause an issue with certain friction lining materials but didn't have a specific list trany's.

I just recently bought a 2006 gt from an auction a few months back and the first thing I did upon getting back home was a full on fluid and oil change everywhere, royal purple synchromax is what went in the manual tranny, the shifts were much smother afterwards and have had no problems thus far.
