Carbureted S197?
#31
Goodness you guys. I'm not saying that modifications are not "cool" or that they are "stupid". Y'all just infer the heck out of everything.
I'm JUST saying that converting a perfectly good S197 chassis to a carbed engine is, in my opinion MUCH more work and money than it is worth...even for a V6 chassis. I don't think everyone is considering the total cost of what is involved. If you are going to have someone else do the conversion, it's NOT going to be cheap. If you ever want to sell it, not many people are going to want to buy it b/c it would be near to impossible to register it for roads, emissions or not.
I went though this a lot with guys on the Dodge Neon forums who wanted to swap V6's into Neons and convert 'em to AWD and stuff like that. "Yes you can do it, but in the grand scheme of everything involved; is it REALLY worth it?"

The only way I would put a carberated motor in my car is if it was a 460 pushed out to 565. With the right heads, cams and intake you can make 800 rwhp on pump gas. You could ditch the main pcm and would have to replace all the gauges too. Pretty much rewire the entire car and start from scratch.

You guys are too spoiled, lol.
Nothing wrong with a carburetor if you don't let the car sit too long, that'd be the only issue really.
With an MSD distributor or Petronix system you don't have to worry about points and condenser so it's reliable all day long.
I put a 100K miles on my 70 Cougar since 98 and never got stranded. I did this on a rebuilt 351.
Cold start... pump it twice and it cranks right up even at freezing temperature.
