Default Longtube headers and cats

So basically im getting some cam work on my car. Im getting ford racing hot rod cams. And im also getting some bbk longtube headers.

Now since i live in la in the suburbs every cop is **** about no cats on cars. So i need to hav cats on my car. If i were to put cats on my longtube headers will i not gain hp compared to having off road pipes? Also im using my stock oem cats.

If you HAVE to use stock cats (blasphemy!), they will be welded into the shorty mid pipe you will have to buy to match the headers. I could imagine you won't make as much HP as off-road using stock cats.

Just be aware the headers will place the cats out of alignment with the heat shields since they will be further back than with stock manifolds, I would just eat the $200 extra or so for high flow cats to weld in since they are smaller and probably flow exhaust far better.

Also - if you have to pass emissions, you won't with long tubes (or any headers for that matter). There aren't any that are CARB-approved that I know of. Thankful we don't have that mess here!

the gain you get from an o/r pipe is about 3-5rwhp so its not a huge deal. CA wont let you pass if you have LTs just so you know

Friend of mine in LA just had a run-in with cops there about his exhaust (happened last month). Long story short, his exhaust was too loud and attracted attention and now he has to return the whole thing to stock. He's not allowed to drive the car until he can show it's been fixed. He was running longtubes with no cats.

Best answer? Move out of the Communist State of California! But some places do sell the set combined allready, LT and midpipes with cats all in one set..... Do those come with extensions for the O2 sensors?

Are your cops looking under the car for cats or are you confusing no cats with a loud exhaust because that seems to be the reason you guys have problems with the cops. Buy quieter mufflers... I passed inspection here with no cats and they are required for inspection... But here on OBD II cars they only do the OBDII check.
