Canton plug is 1/2 npt threads,, sensor is 1/4 x 18 npt threads.. just requires a 1/2" male to 3/8 female reducer.
also the sensor is not an oil pressure sensor, nor is it a oil level sensor, as some sages on other forums have proclaimed. It is an oil temprature sensor and if you just leave it hanging, you will get a code thrown for oil temprature out of operating range.
So do yourself a favor if you are in this bind, and go down to your local neighborhood home improvement store and get a 1/2 to 3/8 brass reducer in the plumbing isle

The next time you are under your car, observe the passenger side of the oil pan. You will see a sensor screwed into the pan, with leads coming out and leading into the wiring harness. This is an oil temperature sensor, it is not an oil pressure sensor, nor is it an oil level sensor, as others have thought. You can verify this by finding a Mustang factory service manual online. If you simply leave it hanging your ecu will throw a code for oil temprature out of operating range.
I have a 2006 Mustang GT track car and I’m getting a P0198 P0298 oil temperature too high DTC and lowered rev limit that goes along with it. I know my motor was replaced with one from another Mustang GT. It is dated 070206. While inspecting the oil temp sensor, I noticed it was “modified” to accept the electrical connector on the wiring harness. When I got a new oil temp sensor from Ford, it’s a totally different style. The one that was hacked up is all plastic while the one the dealership gave me is brass. The funny thing is that the electrical connector fits the brass sensor. Did Ford change the style of this sensor at some point? I wish I could just screw the brass sensor into the pan but it is a smaller thread. That’s how I stumbled across this thread. Will the 1/2 to 3/8 reducer allow me to fit the brass sensor into my pan?

Were you able to figure out this issue? Im currently having the same problem. Have 2 different sensors and no solution. Thinking about buying a new oil pan.
