I did some looking and found that the wires from the pin switch lead just under the steering column into a kind of harness with a big plug with nothing connected to it but a dust cover.
A couple of wires from that harness also go up into the under-dash factory harness but I dont know where those lead. The button does nothing when pushed weather the engine is running or not. Does anyone recognize the plug in the photos?
Thanks

Sounds like an alarm or maybe a valet mode of some kind could also be a push button start some of those kits have valet mode buttons as well can you get a pic of the harness or box it plugs into?

Nevermind the pics didn't come through at first on the app. That almost looks like a neutral safety switch over ride. I had one on my ranger when I swapped from auto to manual trans. It allows you to start the car without your foot on the clutch. Some auto trans cars use it as a jumper to feed the neutral safety switch on the auto trans in the Rangers I'd bet the mustangs are similar.

I'm going to say whatever it is/was was installed very soon after car was new. the dust on the other wire looms looks very similar. also, going by the zip ties, there is a lot more wiring that's been done. I see splices for sure. those are used to get signals from the factory wiring to the brain of whatever was installed, i.e. remote start and or alarm system. so that said, it was installed in late 08 or early 09. if you choose to remove the wiring, youll need to cover the stock wiring with something if you can, electrical tape or something similar to keep corrosion out of the wires. was the raxiom nav system with the car when you bought it or did you add it? jw. good luck

Thank you for your suggestions about the valet and other mods. I will research some of those kits and see if the wiring harnesses and that black plug end look similar.
