Default '07 GT in radio hell

Greetings - My radio failed (I had an car electrical guy confirm it). I bought a brand new one. I took everything apart and installed it. It's acting like the antenna is not hooked up. AM is all static and I get onIy one FM station. I checked the antenna under the hood and under the dash and it looks OK. The antenna wire is absolutely inserted in the lower right side of the back of the radio. There is a bit of play in the connection, but the wire is in there. CD player is fine. What have I managed to screw up this time?

The antenna on 05 to 09 mustangs is on passenger fender and not visible through the engine bay. You would need to remove the wheel well plastic splash shield an look at the the antenna mount itself. Maybe it's rusted through.
