Nitto 555g2 tires?
I have a 01 GT, h/c/I exhaust, throttle body, 4.10 gears. I just installed 100 shot NX. 260hp to the wheels WITHOUT 100 shot. Will my Nitto 555 G2’s hook off the Line at the strip or should I upgrade? My old tires (245/45/17 junk) spun like crazy off the line. New Tires are Nitto 555 G2 275/40/17’s 20lbs psi. Thanks 😊
The 555G2 is a summer street tire. More grip in the warm weather than an all season but not really a drag tire. I had them on previous Mustangs - they sent me 4 to test when they came out. They were a great street tire and I was very pleased with that. You may find with a 100 shot you can't hook them up.
The 555R is Nitto's drag tire, and they have a new one out - the 05R. Based upon what I saw with my friends with the 555 they didn't have the same level of grip and performance as my Mickey Thompson ET, even with a lot of burnout time on them.

Just pisses me off that I called American Muscle and spoke with a tire guy, who allegedly races, who went to tire school and was apparently absent on drag radial day since these are the tires he recommended. Had a supervisor call me back and stated even tho they haven’t been mounted and are still sealed in the shipping box that I can’t return them since they are over 60 days........ he gave a a “small discount” on some MT ET’s. Safety first so I bought them. Ignorance is bliss........ lesson learned
