Default A4LD help different plugs for OD!!

help please. i bought a 88 ford mustang with 2.3 and OD tranny its a A4LD from another vehicle that were put in it some time. engine runs fine and neutral /reverse switch plugs in the same, as does tv linkage cable and modulator vaccum line. however the plug for the OD thing coming out above the pan in the case of the transmission is different from my wiring harness plug, the car harness is a two prong plug and tranny has a three prong coming out of it. how do i get this to work if i can find the three prong plug and cut it back out of another car's harness?? how does one wire it up to the two wires if i cut my plug off and try to fit a three prong plug in for the tranny. or is it possible to drop the pan and find a two prong thing and swap it out or does it even come out of the casing???? someone please help asap, all other gears work great just need OD, thanks

Welcome. Someone here maybe answer this better than me. Only thing I can say now is. I assume you don't know year of trans. If do. Can go to Autozone.com and compare the wiring diagram of engine and trans and maybe able to solve. Trans wiring there is with the engine wiring since trans is controlled by engine computer. Sorry not much help. Mine is 89 with a c-4 so not familiar with the 4 speed auto.

You have the wrong transmission for the car. pfs4life hit the nail on the head. Its a electronic 3-4 shift, the 87-90 A4LD in the mustang is a hydrulic 3-4 shift. Soory my friend but you need to either switch the transmission or swap in a complete 1991-1993 2.3 mustang wiring harness which means different computer and different sensors on the engine (MAF, BARO, etc)

Looked at the two wiring diagrams for the 88 and 91. Differant on the trans. You would also need the wiring harness or repin and extra wiring. The easiest think to do is sell that trans and get correct one. I would think good idea would be talk to trans expert he may know way around this.

I know this is an old thread but i just went through the same problem with 88 Mustang LX hatch. I spent countless hours searching for a simple verified solution to no avail. Some people have said u can swap valve bodies but i didnt want to go through the trouble. I did consider wiring in a switch for the OD but ultimately decided to try wiring both the lock up and 3-4 shift together. Basiclly when lock up kicks in so does OD if i have it in that gear on the shifter. I had to readjust my vacuum modulator to keep it from trying to go back and fourth at around 40mph. Now the car literally runs the same if not better due to adjusing my shift points then it did with the original trans which was pretty much toast and ultimately ended up with reverse only. I dont like seeing threads that end in vein like this one did so i wanted to give my two cents. This seems to be a very common problem with many solutions. I just found that this one was the easiest for me. Happy hunting!
