Default wont shift?

Hi everyone. I have a 1991 2.3 mustang automatic. If the car has been sitting for a long time and is really cold It will shift into drive. However once the car is warmed up it will no longer shift into drive. The car will always shift into revers easily warm or cold. It used to jerk hard into drive before..but now it just only goes into drive when its cold. However when it goes into drive when cold it doesnt jerk now. Any suggestions? I was told once it could be shift solenoid. I was also just recently told it could be valve body sticking....and to use lucas transmission treatment...so far that was to no avail.

Has the fluid ever been changed? Transmission fluid needs changing at 100,000 mi. at a bare minimum. It's time for a rebuild. Changing the fluid now could possibly help it but it's probably too late for that to help.

The best advice I can offer to you is to drive it to a reputable transmission shop and tell them what it's doing. The good shops can nail it down pretty close.
