Default these motors really are indestructable.

Last week I blew the head gasket on my 91 so this weekend I pulled it apart. I have 221,000 miles on the odometer and the insides look brand new. I ran this motor for 2 years with the cam timing so far off, the exhaust valves were open during the compression stroke (this is how I bought it, and thought the lack of power was normal) then I drove it 10-15 miles without any water in it twice about 2 months ago.(probably why the head gasket failed.
