after the heads are off, is there a way to check to see if the rings are bad?

no u have to take them out to see if there bad or u can look at the cylinder walls to see. how many mile on the motor8d

could have done a leakdown test..,,do you have a lip at the top of the cyl.???

the block has 150 orig miles, and there is no lip on the cyl. how hard is it to change the rings on a 302?

You can almost guarantee yourself you need to replace the rings.Its not bad at all hell you already have done the hard stuff.While its apart go ahead and have it checked and tested for breaks and cracks.</P>


But at a 150,000 miles while its down that far you might as well do it right.</P>

take it to the machine job and have it chacked..if walls are ok you have them hone the cyl. for chrome moly rings,put in new cam bearing,freeze plugs and oil galley cleaned....all thread taped
