In reply to joker, it wouldnt necessarily be any more difficult just to repair the 2.3 and put a turbo kit on it. You can get pre-fabbed kits from several places and it would be a fairly straight forward install. But the way i look at it is that if you have access to good machine shops and fabrication equipment, why not go ahead and perform the 407 swap. There really wont be THAT much fab work involved with this route either. As far as i know the 2.3 cars are also drilled ready to accept V8 mounts the same as the 5 liter cars, so mounting things like the tranny, tranny crossmember, and motor mounts should be fairly bolt-in. Not to mention that it would be pretty f'n unique. I mean, who else do you know with a 407 stroker fox?
In reply to marty, there shouldnt be much fabrication work at all with the type of swap youre describing. Basically the only time you should need to even touch a welder is if you want to weld your motor mounts in. Everything else is a straight bolt in. If you go with EFI, you will want to look for a motor that has the wiring complete with it and unbutchered. The A9L computer is preferred to others because it is the best stock mass-air computer in my opinion. As far as transmissions go, there wont be a tranny that came stock in 2.3 cars that you will be able to use successfully behind a 5.0. Hit the junkyards and find a borg warner t5, thats your best bet. If you can find a fairly complete donor car in the junkyard, it is best to get everything you need from that one vehicle if possible (such as tranny, crossmember, rearend, brakes, motor, etc). If you know what youre doing, you have the right tools, and someone there to help, i believe a 2.3 to 5.0 swap is achievable in a weekend. Ive personally done more difficult swaps in the the same amount of time. Hope this helps
