Yeah im having problems with my 87' GT when it gets heated up and when i riding down the road the car jumps and cuts off when im going between 20-35 and i totaly almost had a wreck today cause i didnt have anywhere to go and we went to the side of the road and got stuck in a ditch i dont know what it is can sombody help before i have a wreck and get hurt or killed.

Have you pulled any codes from the computer? Some things that tend to break down when hot are coils and Thick Film Ignition Modules (TFI's).

+1 on that TFI mine died on me. The car would run like dog doo.

ohh man ive been in a similar situation

taking a left turn through a 4 way intersection when all of a sudden i try to turn the wheel and it wont move. immidiatly grab the wheel with both hands and tug the **** out of the wheel. got the car turned but still not going anywhere so im in the middle of an intersection blocking everyway possible and my flywheel is grinding so it wont start. i pull the key out and and put my head back. i realise im gunna have to get out and push this ****ing boat (my 88 monte LS).

after just sitting with my head back for like 30 sec i try to crank and it turned over. i was headed straight for a telephone pole when the car cut off. needless to say i almost **** my pants...

We changed the coil a week ago brand new one,and my dad's getting the TFI tomarrow so hopfully it will work if not then we will get a new fuel filter. i'll keep you up-dated.

I have had TFI modules do that and also the pick up in the distributor do that. It has a bunch of windings in the magnetic pick up that triggers the signal to the TFI module and sometimes under heat the resistance changes enough when this part gets weak and causes ignition failure. If the TFI module does not cure it, check the pick up.

Ok i told ya'll i would keep you up-dated so thats what im doing,we changed the TFI modual and coil,still doing the same thing,so we checked the fuel pump found out it was bas and got a new one changed it now it runs fine got a new fuel filter again also just because we wanted to be sure lol but it sure does run ruff now whats wrong with it? Does the timing need to be set and at what *?

ha.....happened to me to in my 85 monte ss.....started stuttering on the way to class so i turned back to go home and got about 1/2 mile from my house..then the engine just froze up....i had to push it up this friggin 1 degree grade with a coating of snow on the ground which made it feel like a million pounds.....and those cars ARE boats.....all while my friends bus comes by...i was so embarresed i jumped back in..closed the door and waited for it to pass me...
