I ran my stocker behind the nitrous motor for a couple years, I put the t-5z in there when the stocker started to whine like a KB, I put back in the stocker after the t5z broke, and I pretty much drove up the road with it and it broke, im glad 4th still worked to get back to the shop.

RE: Does your Tranny whine??
If you have an aftermarket shifter then gear whine will be amplified through the shifter handle. A stock shifter, for those of you that don't know this, has rubber insulators that bolt the shifter handle to the shifter to keep this noise at a minimum. When you apply power through a manual transmission and the gears are meshing they are actually trying to push away from each other changing their mesh pattern. When you make more power that the transmission will take the gears spread, so to speak, until just the tips of the gears are touching which in turn shells the teeth off. This is more common on transmission that have a 45 degree tooth pattern like the T5. Tremecs, G Force replacement gears, and Astro Performance super T5 gears are cut on 22 degree or less pattern to allow more tooth contact on acceleration when the gears are trying to spead. This is also the reason why 3rd speed gear is the first to go in a T5. Not only is it the thinest of the speed gears but it is also the furthest from a bearing allow more flex an less tooth contact. Sorry for the long post.

If your transmission is whining, a clutch and flywheel isn't going to do much. No matter what you do they are all going to whine some. If you've noticed a progressive increase then it's going to be bearing wear that is allowing a different tooth contact on the gears. The bearings in T5s are preloaded, as they wear the preload goes away changing said tooth contact. I'm not a know it all about T5s, but when you are poor and start to break stuff you'd better learn how to fix it and make it last. The best way to make them last is figure out how it all works. That's why I had a stock T5 in an 11 second car, and it lived. It's still sitting in the shop corner ready to go.
