Default MAF 73 or 76?

I am looking for a MAF sensor and it's down to 73 or the 76mm sensor from c&l. I have heard that the 76mm is a little overkill for near stock street cars. my 89 is has a completely stock induction system and dont plan on doing any induction mods until i get back from iraq. i plan on installing a novi 2000 blower an d afr 185 heads, not sure in which order, but my biggest concern is which MAF will deliver the best drivability for the near stock trim now and in the future. I am leaning towards the 73 seeing as it flows 700 CFM and the 76 is rated near 800CFM and i dont think the extra 80-100CFM is a huge concern on a modified car but might not deliver the most response and drivability for now. does anyone have any comments regarding these two products are even an other brand of MAF's near the same size, any help is appreciated thank you.

You should be okay w/ the 76...I've got the PMAS 75mm in mine. I haven't really heard any driveablility issues w/ the 76 in a near stock car. anyway, you'll want it w/ a blower and bigger heads.

Really it doesn't matter which one you go with, reason being, your engine will only use as much air as it can, so it doesn't matter whether or not the MAF can flow more than the engine will take. It will not hurt performance, it is the T/B what is the deciding factor in this question. You can have a 90mm MAF, but as long as you have the correct T/B ie: 65-70mm then it will run fine (as long as the MAF is calibrated for your size injectors.)

I went with the 73mm MAF for my car, but a 76 is not a bad choice. There's only 3mm difference, won't do a whole lot for ya.

I read somewhere--maybe C&L's site--that their 76 flows 100cfm more than the 73. I figured that would be better for boost. Either way, your MAF wouldn't be the bottleneck

I don't think there would be much difference, but for the same money I would always choose the larger one, it will be less restriction to flow when you get that NOVI 2000.

Yeah, it may be a little better, but like you stated the MAF wouldn't be his bottleneck... Just go with the 76mm

Afterall bigger is always better right!

cool, i'll probably go with the 76, I've also heard of the A/F ration fluctuating depending on which postion the MAF was in, by simply rotating it'll lean out or richen, but I'll address that when I get my tune once the s/c is fitted. once its blown i'll put the sensor in the fenderwell but regardless it's nothing i cant tune around with FPR once its bolted down

You are absolutely correct, if you look hard enough you can see mine is tilted a little. Here's a pic:
