Default signs of a bad maf?

for a few weeks now, car seems like it's missing. Starts up ok, but as soon as I drive it, no power..hesitation. Almost feels like I only have 4 cylinders. Its a 5.0 89 lx. Changed the plugs, wires, and dist. cap & rotor. Seems ok at idle...but have no power at all when I hit the gas. Cats were rattling a few months ago, which leads me to think there clogged. Also, backfire through the engine compartment when I put it under a load. The exhaust seems to be flowing more through the left tailpipe then the right side. Car has just gotten worse and worse as time goes on. Timing is fine at 12 degrees, fuel pressure is at 32psi. Might do a compression test. Can a bad MAF cause this? If so, anyone know the size torx to get it off? If that aint it, I'll disconnect the exhuast

You could try to clean the mass air flow sensor(wires).I'm not sure what size they are but its uses the taper proof style bits to remove it.My 95 gt had a dirty sensor and i had no power what so ever and it spark knock like crazy,so that could be part of your problem if not your problem all together.Hope this helps.

you could try cleaning the maf, but your fuel pressure needs to be 39 at idle with the vac off.

If you had problems w/ your cats, you might consider replacing your o2's. Bad cats can make them crap out in a hurry.

it was the MAF...cleaned the wires, UNBELIEVEABLE power now. I must have had this problem for years, because the car never drove like this. Gummed up with KN filter oil and dirt. Oh yeah, my fuel pressure is actually 39psi with the vac off, and 32psi with it on. Thanks for your help [8D]
