Default valve clearance

does anyone know how much life i can put on a stock 302 and stock pistons before my valaves start hitting the pistons? right now i'm looking at a.550 lift right now and dont want to ruin anything.

I ran a x cam with 5.42 lift and had .0100 clearance no problem you should always clay check it though you want 100 on the intake and 120 on the exhaust.

if you have an 85 engine 550 lift will bend all the valves..find out first...

86 has the flat top pistons all 85 motors i've seen have cuts.

it's an 87 block and the pistons have the groves cut in them

Should clear but ALWAYS check clearance.
