the reason i am thinking this is because i looked at a 4cyl conversion last month. it still have the 7.5 inch rear end and it was an 88'.

look in the 1986 year... it doesn't distinguish btwn gt or 4 banger tho

can someone please verify that the 8.8 inch rear end didnt come stock on the 2.3.

It did, when I did my conversion, I pulled a 8.8 off a donor Gt. you will have to get new front spindles/rotors and calipers for the front, if you want to run 8.5 rims, like cobra-rs and such, found that out when i switched from my 10-holes I had on it as a 4 cyl car.

The conversion is pretty easy, the fun part is pullin off all the 4 banger crap. get a donor car for this conversion, it makes it much easier. I made mine a carbed 302, so I ripped out half my wiring too
