I thought airplane motors reved really high...
I saw a show once (dont remember which show) and this guy had a truck w/ an airplane motor in it (it didnt go into detail) but it idled at like 6,000RPM's? and spun all the way up to like 24k.

hmm, dont know all piston airplane engines run at low rpm to keep prop speed down.
at 2,700 rpm prop ends are going around at close to the speed of sound. get all kinds problems with that.

sure, it's kinda crazy the big propeller planes in military and airlines only turn
at 1,400 rpm, but push out 14,000 ft/lbs of torque from jet engines, pushing huge flat blades thru the air.
