Default tranny ?

i have just bought my first mustang 89 conv auto and want to change it over to a stick i was wondering if a newer one off like a 1996 and new would fit in there taking off the bellhousing and putting on a 5.0 bellhousing i need something that will hold up while banging threw the gears and not break anything
any info would be great help

The tranny out of a 96 will work if you change the bell housing and the input shaft, You can buy the input shaft for like 150 new and then change it out, the 96 shaft is to long so i have heard of people grinding them down but i would never do that

the 94-95 shaft is the longer one i dont know about the 96 i might want to tak that back. my brain is not working today
