Losing battery voltage??

RE: Losing battery voltage??
Well, it turn out that the alternator had a fried plug and wire (after the first major rain).... so that caused a complete car break down. But even AFTER i fixed it, it still runs at 12v... i was pissed. PLUS the idiotic moron who took out the alternator strechted out my belt and now it makes squeeling noises.
Now, it SOMETIMES stays near the middle, and most of the time on the lower end of the band. Wierd... im thinking of custom making a bracket to fit the 1994 alternator on there, those use the new type of alternators and i need it for the MSD and elec. fan.
Any says??

RE: Losing battery voltage??
Well from my recent experiences I found out the hard way to. I have replaced two alternator since I have had my car (1 Year now) finding out that it wasn't my alternator. My car use to run the 2nd notch from the bottom on the gauge, when finally my car died on the freeway when making a juncton and all my gauges were dimming and I could no longer accelerate. It came out to be that one of my connections were lose on this thing that says "diode suppressed" between the ignition coil and the positive battery cable. The bolt was lose which connected everything to it and it solved my battery issue, now I run 2 notches from the top on the gauge. I hope this is understandable.

RE: Losing battery voltage??
After I poasted, took the family to the mountains in the Ragtop. On the way up the interstate, I noticed that when I turned my vent fan on, the voltage went down. I turned it off, and eventually the voltage would come back up close to normal. Then, it went down and wouldn't come up, while no accessories were on. I think it was the original alternator on the '90 GT. Luckily, I had a meter with me and when we got a hotel room, I checked the voltage. No charging going on at all. Had a socket set with me, so here I go tooling off to a parts store for an alternator and a large adjustable wrench to be able to take tension off of the belt. Got one and changed it in the hotel parking lot. Thank the good Lord it was easy to get too. Took around 20 minutes to get it changed out while clouds were threatening. She's charging like a champ now.

your stock bracket will work for a 3g alt. you just have to grind it a little
