Default Looking for cheap speed

I have a '68 Mustang for the stylish cruising but its just too hard/expensive to get these going REALLY fast. Is there any year span that is just way better than the rest as far as stock speed + cheap aftermarket parts that can easily achieve alot more speed?

a couple of people have suggested 87-92 but I thought I'd ask for some suggestions on what to look for when I go searching for a car.

I HATE the looks of the late 80's, early 90's Mustangs but I respect them as cheap + fast. I'm more of a fan of 64-69 and the 05+ models. There were a couple early 70's models I wouldn't mind having *cough* Boss *cough*

If you want a cheap, fast, and easy to mod car you can't go wrong with a 87-93 Fox - they have EFI and are very easy to find for low bucks, and the modifications are endless and pretty cheap to get into. You might want to look at a 94-95 5.0 (like mine)... much better looking IMO, not as fast stock because its heavier but nice interior and more refined, safer, ect. Same 302 so the mods are just as cheap. Good luck!

thanks, I have already been watching ebay for the 87-92's, wasn't sure if 93 was in that same class.

I'm looking for speed and not looks for this next purchase. Whenever I want to drive with style the '68 Mustang I have is for that

The reason why I'm asking is I'll have my '68 finished in probably about a month. Then I want something for my wife to yell at me about.

then in that case cheap speed=fox

I think the 92 and older all had forged pistons, and 93+ didnt, 92 and down are usually preferable

I thought there was a reason why the person I was talking to left out the 93.

How fast of quarter mile times should I expect with $10k total? thats about how much TOTAL I have available to spend on this project (once I sell my boat)

This whole thread has a little bit of misleading info. Mods for the 89-93 Foxes are more abundant yes, but not neccesarily cheapest. You can get a Weind Supercharger for like $2,500 to $3,200 for a Carberated Mustang like yours for a LOT cheaper than a fox. And EFI fox needs either a Whipple, Eaton, Kenne Bell, or centrifigal type like Vortech, Procharger, or Paxton which all cost a lot more. Usually around $4,500 to $5,500. Heads are the same price for you year compared to a fox, cam is the same as well. Plus nitrous can be had for less. So when your talking about price it's not always cheaper for the Fox. The only thing is that stuff for the Foxes can be had and found a lot easier and thats where the big misconception comes from. And yes there is more types of mods you can do to a Fox but that due to the EFI vs. Carb.

Um, get a real 60's muscle car?

... basically anything made by GM

*TAKES COVER!!!!!*

But seriously... thats a carbed engine. Thats WAY easier than an EFI engine... you dont have to worry about emissions or anything right? Go for a high end intake manifold and carb for starters
