Hmm my mom is going to Europe for three months and I am thinking that maybe this would be a good time to take my engine out, rebuild it and then put it back together since I wil have another car to drive. I want to get forged pistons and a new cam if I do. I dont care about the rest to much really. Maybe forged connecting rods. Also bore it to a 306 and really clean up the block. Check for cracks and shizzat. Anyone know of any cheap rebuild kits. I think I will look at eagle d.s.s and CHP. Hell maybe even the ones in summit. Thanks for reading.

Coast High's website has crank kits listed higher than their magazine ads by a couple hundred. I say do some shoppin through MMFF to get a quick estimate.

I think you'd be better off investing the money in some serious house parties until your mom gets back. Don't forget to save some of the cash for cleanup & damged housewares, okay?.....<J\K!>

3 months is perfect for doing that kinda work... you should be done with it all by the time she gets back. as for your plans... are you going to get a preassembled short block? or bore yours? good luck man sounds like a fun summer project... do is smell blower in your future?

HAHAHA I WISH!! My step dad is still here so unfortunately thats a no go.

I am looking to just freshen mine up and get new internals. Summit has a forged 302 kit for 480 or something like that. The lowest 306 kit I found is 800+ so if I dont think I will be going that route, although who knows. We'll see i am going to keep looking around. I dont really want to spend to much money since I'm going to Europe in 3 months when my mom gets back. If anyone knows where I can get a decent 306 kit please chime in.

Ok well this is what I have arranged so far. Engine hoist, engine stand, harmonic balance puller, ring compressor (depending on bore size cause I'm getting this from a chevy guy), and torque wrench. I ordered the HP ford rebuild book that will be my guide during the proccess. Next I have to see what kit and whether or not I will be able to get an upper and lower intake manifold and port my heads. I got at least a month before this happens so I should be able to save up enough money for it. We'll see. So any recommendations on cheap but good kits.

You get a kit with standard bearings, one or two of the crank or rod journals might be scarred up......Whadda you do?

Tear the motor down quickly, inspect, then you start ordering a kit......
