Its not hard to do yourself, just check your clearances and be sure to replace all your bears. Be sure to shim it right.
arent there some tools that most people dont have?

Like? You prolly need an impact wrench, and basic handtools.

You dont have to pull the bearing off the other pinion. Go to your local hardware store and get a pinion bearing from them its usually a stocking iteam.

And I had somone press it on for me.

need to be careful on self install.

you will a micrometer to measure backlash also.

I was quoted $500 installed with speedo recalibrated too.
somethings are worth have a pro do.

dont forget your speedo if you're doing it yourself.

yes, you need a micrometer with magnetic base, they're
not that expensive.
Horse Power TV had a spot on changing gears, didnt look that hard
"if you knew what you were doing".

It has to be shimmed correctly and backlash has to be set right.
If you could find some good step by step instructions you should be able
to do it yourself.

again, dont know what it takes to calibrate the speedo.

I agree w/ r.barn^^^. I would pay to have it done right. If you mess it up, you'll be paying all over again, plus to fix whatever you damaged...

ever run your own business? you have to cover all kinds
of overhead plus make money.
phone bill
payroll
electricity
rent
tools

insurance
on and on......

my $500 quote was complete....., gears, seals, bearings, new speedo gear, fluid, labor.........
more to it than just buying some $160 gears and dropp'n them in.

dont ever try to swap rear gears unless youve seen it done before. its a mess till youve seen it, but after you see it done its not near as bad. dont go into it green though.
