Default Does anyone know why...

So today, I thought I had finally found the source of my rough idle. I started the car, and waited for it to idle down and stabilize for a few seconds. It started to idle slightly rough, as usual. Then I sprayed some carb cleaner on the IAC gasket, and the idle increased and the engine smoothed out. Then, as the carb cleaner disappeared, the idle fell back into roughness. Again, I sprayed the carb cleaner, and the engine smoothed out again. I repeated this a couple of times to make sure that my ears weren't playing tricks on me, with much the same effect. Then I did a couple of other things with the engine running. When I went back to spray the IAC gasket one last time, for the hell of it, I was unable to reproduce the idle-raising/smoothing effect. So I stood there for the next 10 minutes, wasting a can of carb cleaner, and could not re-create the effect. Now I'm confused as to whether or not I really found the problem. Any thoughts on this?
